A perennial plant. The common mugwort produces a large volume of underground stalks, hence it is very well rooted in the ground, and for this reason it is difficult to control using mechanical methods. It occurs seldom in fields, and if so, mainly in areas where simplification of management was introduced. In case of development in the area of permanent green fields, it can develop high pressure, and this has specific consequences. One of these is a fall in the quality of animal feed. In addition, the weed is a tough competitor against crop. It can grow well on nitrogen-rich soils. It prefers unused areas, ruderal areas and baulks and roadsides. It is also sometimes seen in neglected permanent green spaces.

The common mugwort can reach a height of up to 240 cm. It blossoms between July and September, producing an intense smell. Due to its eagerness to expand, it is best to start controlling it as soon as possible. Spraying with suitable herbicides proves effective.
