A perennial plant, the common yarrow is not a frequent pest of fields. One can say that it occurs only marginally. However, the effects of its presence can be felt on green areas, where it can exhibit quite high pressure. Experts have noted that it reduces the taste quality of animal feed and discourages animals from feeding. In addition, it is able to limit the growth of the crop. It is also seen in ruderal areas, fallow areas and along roads. It develops well in nutrient- and nitrogen-rich soils. It is characterised by excellent resistance to frost. Flowers between July and October.

It is quick to overgrow even large areas, making the common yarrow an expansive, and, under favourable conditions, dangerous weed. Individual plants can grow up to a metre in height. In the control process, effective are mechanical methods, hence, one can use mowing and cutting down the plant. If the density would reach a high level, then spray treatment using a properly chosen product is indicated and effective.
