This plant winters well and is annual – a summer plant. The oldfield clover is seen extremely rarely in fields. It is most common in permanently green areas, ruderal areas and along roads. It was noted that it worsens the taste of animal feed and discourages the animals from eating, hence it can pose a problem for farmers. It prefers sandy and dry areas with a low nitrogen content. It feels great in acidic soils. The average height of a plant is between five and 30 centimetres. The flowering period is between June and September, usually on sandy and clay soils.
The oldfield clover has three leaves – a characteristic trait. If it emerges among the crop, one should implement preventive measures to effectively prevent further expansion. Spraying with a well-chosen herbicide is usually an effective method, one most commonly used in farming.
